Farmhouse Boho Bedroom
Boho Modern Farmhouse Decor
When it comes to trending home decor styles, it seems the most popular way to decorate your house in 2021 is mixing design styles together to create your own unique space!
I have long loved this style for decorating our home and I am thrilled its now an approved method. Because really, there are so many amazing design styles why choose just one?!
I most commonly refer to our home decor style as Boho Modern Farmhouse.

Mixing home decor styles
When we purchased this house 3.5 years ago it was decorated in a more traditional country home decor style.
Although I love a farmhouse decor style, country decor style isn't really my thing.
So I got to work transforming our home into something more my taste but keeping within the original style of the house.
Modern Farmhouse decor
Modern farmhouse style can best be defined as rustic meets modern. Think rustic materials like stone and brick, rough wood and either vertical or horizontal shiplap paired with sleek and modern materials, lighting and furniture.
I dream of vaulted ceiling's with exposed beams, vertical wainscotting, sleek and simple kitchen cabinets and mid century bar stools all lined up in a row!
Really the sky is the limit when it comes to how a person could combine both a farmhouse aesthetic with modern design!
And the best part is, that just like any canvas, each individuals way of pairing these styles creates a wonderfully unique look!
Making it your own
My modern farmhouse style can best be described as cozy and inviting with old farmhouse floors and lots of moulding and trim, but with a modern spin on the furniture we used to decorate each room.
I meshed together my love for warm wooden tones with my love for sleek and simple design by mixing mid century modern furniture with some more traditional farmhouse elements.
Our sectional, geometric rug, and gold lamp are more modern in shape and style where as our woven shades, rustic table and vintage sintered rugs.
Boho decor
Where does the boho come in? I love me some fun textures like polka dots, tassels, pom poms and shag. These are all very boho and add some fun and whimsy to a home.
Another trend thats very boho is lots and lots of plants. Long ago I only used faux plants in our home, but with the recent onslaught of major retailers (I'm looking at you Home Depot) starting to carry fun indoor plants, Ive jumped on the real plant train and haven't looked back.
Accenting your homes roots
I can't think of a better way to combine your own personal design style with your homes original style then being able to combine them both.
This really is the perfect marriage in my mind and I am so happy we can now mesh together all our favourite interior design styles without anyone batting an eye!
Lets break down how I transformed each room to incorporate my boho modern farmhouse style.
Modern Farmhouse Kitchen decor
Our kitchen was the room that received the biggest makeover in our home!
This summer we decided to tear down the upper cabinets and replace them with more modern floating shelves.
We went for a heavy contrast by pairing our floating shelves with painted cabinetry in Black Magic by Sherwin Williams. We added in lots go rustic wood with our shelves so we made sure to balance it with modern gold hardware and lighting.
Modern farmhouse dining room decor
Our dining room was painted bright yellow when we moved in. To show off the beautiful windows and trim I painted it cloud white by Benjamin Moore.
We changed out the light fixture that has a traditional shape and shades with a modern gold color.
The only other change we made was to add in an electric fireplace. We decided to finish it with shiplap and keep it sleek by using a white mantel instead of a chunky rustic wood one.
We accented this room with a rustic farmhouse table from Restoration Hardware, cane chairs and a wooden bench. I also added in a traditional window pain black iron mirror over a mid century console table!
Modern Farmhouse Living Room decor
And lastly our living room. This room has gone through many different transformations since we moved in. I am loving how it looks at the moment.
Again I wanted to show off the beautiful traditional picture windows and bay window so I went with rustic farmhouse woven shades.
My husband made the wooden table that sits at the back of the room for our girls to do crafts and school work.
We added in our large mid century white sectional and geometric rug and balanced it with our handmade Revival Goods rustic coffee table.
I hope you enjoyed our home tour and that it leaves you encouraged and inspired to find the design styles that sing to you and make your house a home!
